"The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members."

Coretta Scott-King.

Our Commitment to Community Development

At Hawkeye, Community Engagement is important to us. Together, people who live and work in a common neighbourhood must collaborate to use their respective skillsets to achieve strong Community Development for the benefit of its members. Through positive community cohesion, we seek to empower individuals and groups of people with the skills they need to effect change within their communities. These skills will best be nurtured through the formation of New Town Community Association, where residents and businesses work cohesively toward a non-statutory common agenda.

Committee members come together to take action on what's important to us as a collective. At its heart, the function of our committee is underpinned by residents and local business engagement in community development that is people-focused, so that all people have access to health, well-being, wealth, justice and opportunity. At all times, our committees will discuss issues with a holistic approach and is grounded in principles of empowerment, human rights, inclusion, social justice, self-determination and collective action solutions.

Purpose of the Community Association

In response to many business reports of issues affecting their livelihoods and impacting the function of their business, Hawkeye Empire has taken the lead in implementing an independent Community Association that will seek to bring local residents and businesses to one table where collectively, we can all discuss the issues and possible solutions that we can later put forward as a Neighbourhood Plan (or ideas toward an existing such model) to improve the situation and outlook of our respective areas.

>>  Role of each Member

To report and attend any matters of residents or business concern and to begin constructive dialogue as to how to resolve and avenues of supporting our collective efforts for the best possible result.

>> What if I do not want to attend Committee meetings?

We want to create a committee that is as focused on community cohesion despite any differences, so that our attitudes to reaching a resolution can be seen, felt and reflected in our local community by key service users. The Committee suggests that we can all have an active input with or without our active attendance.

>> Membership Costs

There is currently no cost for membership of the Association or its committees. However, there is scope for membership costs to be discussed by all members at the first and follow-up meetings and this will be put to a vote. The outcome of the vote will be determined based on the balance of votes for and against the notion of costs and what these will contribute to (which will be toward Community Guardians' safety and security services in line with our community's priorities.

>> Young Ambassadors

Our Young Ambassadors consists of the next generation (in many cases, the children of attendees of the former Old Town Community Association (of the Old Town Community Centre of Clyde Street, Deptford).  In response to former attendees requests, the committee will have Young Ambassadors who attend meetings regarding youth provision, bringing to the table the issues of youth in Deptford and helping to spread the word on the committee's proposed initiatives and developments.

>> New Deptford Ward

With the recent emergence of Deptford into its own ward, came the opportunity for us to properly rebirth our Old Town Community Association (OTCA) evolved as New Town Community Association (NTCA). With our NTCA comes a "New Truth"  based on our 'newfound' collective commitment to advanced objectives for the betterment of all who live and work in Deptford. Advancement of our objectives will include see our implementation of new neighborhood plans form newly revised 'people priorities'. Further information is soon to follow via our NTCA's New Truth newsletter on a quarterly basis.
